Setting up your e-mail account

There are a handful of well-known and popular email programs including Outlook, Thunderbird, Eudora and Windows Mail. For many years, the world’s most popular email client program was Outlook Express, and because of its simplicity that is the email client we have chosen to walk you through setting up your email account if you have a Softflare Basic Hosting account or Mailer Lite.

Remember, if you're on Windows 7 - 10 or on a Mac or Ubuntu, you'll be using a different email client software, but the settings will still be the same, it’s just the dialog boxes that will be different.

To set up your email account click Tools and Accounts, and select Add and Mail:

Add your name as you want people to know you:

Enter your new email address:

Enter the type of account you will be using. If you do not know the diference between POP3 and IMAP, choose POP3. In the Incoming and Outgoing servers input fields, replace with your own domain name:

Your account username is the same as your email address. For security reasons, the password is known only to you (if one day you forget your password, we can change it for you, but we cannot recover a lost password):

Close the account creation dialog. This will return you to the list of accounts. Select the account you have just created and click Properties:

Go to the Servers tab and check the box that says My server requires authentication and then click Settings:

Make sure Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected:

That’s it! Close all the dialog boxes and you are ready to start using your email account!
